Passion never dies. It grows

James Finamore (b. 1990) is an American composer, pianist, kotoist, and educator. His music draws inspiration from various sources around the world, including western classical, traditional Japanese, African poly-rhythms, metal, and jazz fusion. He was the winner of the 2019 Dolce Hogaku Ensemble International Composition Competition and has been awarded a Departmental Merit Scholarship (2020-2021) and the Allen R. Trubitt Scholarship Fund (2017-2020) by faculty of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. He is currently a graduate assistant for the Language Flagship Technology Innovation Center and was awarded a graduate assistantship with the UH Music department in the fall of 2020. His compositional output consists of works for orchestra, wind ensemble, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, chorus and voice, as well as for Japanese, Korean and Chinese instruments.

Performers of his music include Dolce Hogaku Ensemble (ドルチェ邦楽合奏団), Duo YUMENO, Contemporary Music Ensemble at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and renowned virtuosi Seizan Sakata (shakuhachi), Yang Jing (pipa), Christopher Yohmei Blasdel (shakuhachi), I-Bei Lin (violoncello), Joseph Stepec (violin). Finamore received his A.A. in Music from Palomar College located in southern California and graduated Magna cum laude with a BMus from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. He is currently in the second year of the Master of Music program. Finamore has studied composition with Donald Reid Womack, Thomas Osborne, Takuma Itoh, Madelyn Byrne, and David G. Moyer. His piano studies were overseen by Johnathan Korth and Cathi Mangione-Moyer. His other instrumental studies include koto with Darin Miyashiro of the Sawai Koto Academy (沢井箏曲院), percussion with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician Howard Blank, and singing with David G. Moyer, leader of The New Christy Minstrels (1980 – 1983).

ジェームス・フィナモア（1990年生まれ）は、米国のピアニスト、筝曲演奏者、かつ、将来有望な作曲家である。彼の作品はクラシック、現代邦楽、メタル、ジャズフュージョン等様々なジャンルのスタイルを取り入れられている。

ハワイ大学、マノア校より、研究助成金（教員による援助金）を取得し、その他に、アレン・R.ツルービット奨学金を２０１７年から～２０２０年続けて得る。また、2019年ドルチェ邦楽合奏団による新作選考会で入賞。フィナモアの作品は管楽器のアンサンブル、室内楽、ソロ曲、コーラスや声楽を含め、日本、韓国、中国の楽器などの作曲も手がけている。

過去に彼の作品は、デュオ・夢乃、ドルチェ邦楽合奏団)、ハワイ大学の現代音楽・アンサンバル、尺八界での二方の雄、坂田誠山とクリストファー遙盟、そしてシズカ楊静 （Shizuka Yang Jing ー中国琵琶）と、様々なアーティストに演奏されている。

ドナルド　ウォーマック、トマス・オズボーン、タクマ伊藤、マデリン・バーン、デイビッド・D・モイヤーの元で作曲を学ぶ。ピアノは、ジョナサン・コース、そしてキャッシー・マンジオンーモイヤーから教え受ける。その他にも、沢井箏曲院講師、ダーレン宮城より箏、ロックンロールの殿堂入りのハワード・ブランクより打楽器、そしてザ・ニュー・クリスティー・ミンストレルのリーダー、デイビッド・D・モイヤー（1980－1983年）より声楽を学ぶ。
