James Finamore (b. 1990) is an American composer, pianist, kotoist, and educator. His music draws inspiration from various sources around the world, including western art music, traditional Japanese, African poly-rhythms, metal, and jazz fusion. He was the winner of the 2019 Dolce Hogaku Ensemble International Composition Competition. Performers of his music include Dolce Hogaku Ensemble (ドルチェ邦楽合奏団), Duo YUMENO, the Contemporary Music Ensemble at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and renowned virtuosi Seizan Sakata (shakuhachi) and Yang Jing (pipa). Finamore received his A.A. in Music from Palomar College located in southern California and graduated Magna cum laude with a BMus from the University of Hawai`i Manoa. He is currently in the Master of Music program at UH Manoa.
